THE DEAN FAMILY HISTORY

The Dean family had its inception during the dark days of slavery. Moses and Amy were slaves on the plantation of the slave master, Williams. Moses and Amy Dean had the opportunity, determination, and strength to rear eleven children (eight sons and three daughters) as a family during slavery. When freedom was declared, they dropped their slave surname, Williams, and adopted the surname of Dean.

The roots of the Dean Family tree are in the town of Ninety-Six, Greenwood County, in the Piedmont region of South Carolina. Branches of the tree have spread across this country. The Dean Family has gained spiritual, physical, and mental vigor from their spouses, ministers, and educational mentors.
